Which Fruits are Considered Superfoods?

Last Updated on: August 19, 2022

It seems we are all constantly searching for a new food or drink which can improve our health and give us more energy in our busy lives.

While we are a company that advocates for hydrogen water with its many benefits, we also recognize the health value of fruits.

Here we will explain what fruits are superfoods and how they can help your body.

What Qualifies Something to be Called a Superfood?

The word superfood first appeared when the United Fruit Company in the 20th century created a campaign to sell bananas. The company used the term to remind consumers their bananas were full of beneficial nutrients.

As the fruit became more popular, so did the term. People began using the word “superfood” to describe other fruits and vegetables which had many health benefits and high nutritional values.

Now, a superfood does not have a scientific definition, but the more common meaning says a superfood is any food considered beneficial to a person’s health. (1)

The term is widely used by companies promoting their products and health blogs explaining how a certain food can make a person heal or feel better.

Here is our list of some of the healthiest and well known superfood fruits available.

Blueberries

Blueberries are packed full of antioxidants which fight off free radicals. Free radicals cause oxidation and inflammation in the body. Blueberries also have high levels of phytoflavinoids, potassium, and vitamin C.

Many scientists and medical professionals believe blueberries can help re

duce the risk of heart disease and various cancers. (2, 3, 4)

Other Berries

There are many other types of berries which have similar health benefits as blueberries. (5) Almost all berries have high amounts of fiber, minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Acai berries are nutrient dense and contain antioxidants as well as amino acids. (6)

Cranberries have fiber, vitamin k, and manganese and can help reduce the risk of developing urinary tract infections. (7)

Goji berries come from Asia and have high levels of vitamin c, vitamin e, and other flavonoids. They are often used to treat diabetics and keep kidneys, eyes, and the liver healthy. (8)

Oranges

All citrus fruits are considered superfoods, but oranges are one of the best. Even the peel of the orange contains nutrients. Oranges contain high levels of fiber and are well known for their vitamin c content. They also are full of water making them even more desirable for hydration. (9)

Bananas

Recently bananas have received some unflattering attention as people think they cause some health problems. However, these claims are not warranted. A banana has high amounts of fiber, potassium, vitamin c, and magnesium. They can help with blood pressure, heart health, and digestive health. (10, 11)

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are a type of fruit full of vitamin C and lycopene. These together have been shown to reduce the risk of prostate cancer in men. They can protect your heart and your vision. (12, 13).

Pomegranates

Pomegranates are believed to improve heart and brain health. They are often used in dietary supplements used to add antioxidants to your diet (14, 15).

Avocados

Many people forget avocados are a fruit and not a vegetable. Avocados are completely loaded with healthy fats. They contain lutein which helps eyesight. They also contain fiber and other minerals and vitamins which could reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancer types (16, 17).

Why Choose Superfood Fruits?

People generally believe fruits are good for your health, and they are. There are some fruits however that offer more nutritional benefits than others. These fruits can prevent illnesses, create healthier body systems, and are easily found and included in diets.

The next time you are at a grocery store or farmer’s market, select these fruits and see how they can make your body feel better every single day.
