Electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation and protection from it is a growing topic of conversation, but for many people, there may be some unfamiliar terms. To help you more fully understand what EMF radiation is, how it can affect you, and how you can protect yourself from it, we’ve compiled a glossary of common terms used when talking about EMF exposure.

3G, 4G, and 5G Frequencies: These are three different generations of mobile communication networks, each with their own range of frequencies. (1) Within each generation of mobile communication, the signal frequencies often vary, depending on the provider and the country.

The 3G network began in 1998 and made it possible to not only make voice calls, but to also do video calls and use mobile internet. (1) 3G wavelengths typically range from about 800 MHz (megahertz) to 1900MHz. (2)

4G was released in the late 2000s, and it is about 500 times faster than 3G. This network supports high-definition video and more. (1) Generally, the 4G wavelengths range between about 600 MHz and 2100MHz. (2)

5G is the newest generation of mobile communication, and it is still being developed in many areas, although some providers have already created this latest network. It is anticipated that 5G will be able to pass information between devices much faster than 4G, ultimately reducing download speeds and increasing upload speeds. 5G is also said to be able to support more devices without slowing down. (1) As 5G becomes available to consumers, it’s expected that it will run on frequencies ranging from 850MHz to about 28GHz. (2)

A

Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) Production

This is one of the ways that you can measure the effectiveness of your Qi Device™. ATP is the molecule that carries energy within each of your cells. (3) An increase in ATP means that there is also an increase in mitochondrial function, which is one indication that your Qi Device™ is working.

To check your ATP levels and determine whether your Qi Device™ is working, schedule an appointment with your doctor to get an organic acid test. Be sure to take a test both before you start using your Qi Device™ and about 30 days after you start using it. This will help give you a baseline for comparison.

B

Bluetooth®

Bluetooth® is a type of wireless communication that is designed specifically for close-range communication. (4) Devices that communicate via Bluetooth® do so directly to each other instead of sending a signal through a third device, such as a router. This requires minimal power, which can help maintain the battery life of your device. (5)

There are many different devices that use Bluetooth®, including cellphones, cars, garage door openers, baby monitors, laptops, keyboards, speakers, earbuds and AirPods, some home security systems, and so much more.

Bluetooth® devices use low-power radio waves to communicate. While this is a type of non-ionizing radiation, low-frequency radiation can still affect your health. (5, 6, 7)

C

Cellular Towers

Also known as a cell site, a cell tower is used to house electronic communications equipment. (8) By using high-frequency radio waves (or microwaves), cellular towers make it possible to use several electronic devices, including cellphones, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth®, and more. (9)

Cellular towers are major EMF emitters, sending out microwaves as far as 45 miles away; however, some may emit microwaves only as far as a couple of miles, especially in areas where there are hills or other obstructions. Cellular towers emit microwaves that have a higher frequency than radio waves, making them more powerful for your devices while also increasing the potential for negative health effects. (9)

D

Depolarize

To remove or prevent the polarization of something. Depolarization involves removing hydrogen to help keep a high voltage in a polarization cell. (10) Qi Devices™ are designed to depolarize EMF radiation to protect you against the harmful effects of EMF exposure.

Double-Blind Studies

A double-blind study is a study in which both the subject and the tester do not know if they are receiving the experimental treatment, a standard treatment, or the placebo treatment. (11) Our Qi Devices™ have been tested via double-blind studies to show their effectiveness at reducing the effects of EMF radiation. To view these studies, click here

E

Electrical Grounding

Grounding refers to making contact with the Earth’s surface (such as standing barefoot outside) to absorb and make contact with the Earth’s surface electrons. Some researchers say that absorbing the Earth’s electrons “induce multiple physiological changes,” including reduced oxidative stress, fatigue, and pain. (12) For more information about electrical grounding, check out this blog post.

Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs)

Also known as electric and magnetic fields, EMFs are often referred to as radiation, specifically radiation associated with electrical power. EMFs are grouped into one of two frequencies: ionizing or non-ionizing. (13) See “Ionizing EMFs” and “Non-Ionizing EMFs” entries in this glossary.

Although further studies are necessary, many citizens and scientists report that EMFs can damage our health. Some studies suggest that EMFs can affect your concentration, cause headaches and fatigue, and may even contribute to cancer development.

EMF Emitters

EMF emitters are natural sources or man-made devices that emit electromagnetic radiation. In today’s technological world, there are more devices that emit EMFs than we may realize. Some of the most common sources of EMFs include: (14)

    • Cellphones
    • Computers
    • Radios
    • Bluetooth® devices
    • Shavers
    • Hairdryers
    • Power lines
    • Wi-Fi routers
    • Smart meters
    • Televisions
    • Sunlight

Electromagnetic waves produce radiation that can be harmful to your health.

EMF Hypersensitivity

EMF hypersensitivity (EHS) is a condition in which someone experiences specific symptoms as a result of exposure to EMF radiation. For many people, these symptoms can include sleep disturbances, headaches, lack of concentration or focus, fatigue, anxiety and depression, and more. (15)

Although some researchers question the reality of EMF hypersensitivity, several studies have shown a physical effect on those who are regularly exposed to or close to EMF-emitting devices. Further studies are needed to provide more substantial evidence, but it is difficult to deny the side effects that many people experience when around electronic devices.

EMF-Reducing Bags and Cases

A bag or case used to store electronic devices and help reduce your EMF exposure. While these products may prove effective for some people, they do have their limitations. EMF-reducing bags and cases only work when the device is in the bag or case, and they are only designed for portable devices. Once the device is removed, or if you are around stationary devices like a television or desktop computer, you are no longer protected from EMF exposure.

Qi Devices™ work to protect you from any and every EMF-emitting device, portable or stationary, at all times. Plus, you do not need to keep your devices in a bag or case in order to protect yourself from EMF exposure. Because the Qi Devices™ create a protective area, you can keep your devices out in the open while still knowing you are protected.

EMF-Reducing Clothing

EMF-reducing clothing is made of specific material designed to help reduce your exposure to EMF radiation. Some may find this method of EMF protection effective; however, EMF-reducing clothing is quite expensive. Not only that, but you need to wear the clothing in order to be protected from EMFs. This means that you have a limited wardrobe if you want to stay protected every day.

Qi Devices™ work by creating a protective area around you that helps depolarize EMFs and thus reduce your exposure. This means that you can wear whatever you’d like and still be protected as long as you are within the protective area.

EMF-Reducing Jewelry

EMF-reducing jewelry often uses crystals, such as tourmaline, to help reduce your total EMF exposure. While this method of EMF protection is quite affordable and may be effective for some people, there are virtually no studies available to support their effectiveness. Plus, you will need to wear your EMF-reducing jewelry constantly in order to stay protected, which can make it difficult if you ever want to wear any other piece of jewelry.

Qi Devices™ allow you to wear whatever you’d like and still be protected from EMF exposure. Both the stationary and portable Qi Devices™ create a protective field that depolarizes EMF radiation and helps reduce your overall exposure.

EMF Spectrum

The EMF spectrum is a range of frequencies or wavelengths that fall within the electromagnetic range. From smallest to largest frequency (in hertz), the spectrum includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared waves, visible light, ultraviolet light, X-rays, and gamma rays. The EMF spectrum can also list included wavelengths according to their frequency, ranging from tremendously high frequency and millimeter waves as the highest frequencies to super low frequency and extremely low frequency as the lowest frequencies. (16)

Extremely Low Frequency (ELF)

Extremely low frequency (ELF) wavelengths are EMF frequencies ranging from 1Hz to 300Hz. Power lines, electrical equipment, and electrical wiring produce extremely low frequencies at 60Hz. (17)

The health effects of extremely low frequency radiation have been studied only a handful of times; however, some studies suggest that ELF waves can contribute to a variety of health issues, such as cancer, cardiovascular issues, and brain or behavioral changes. (17)

F

Free Electrons

A free electron is an electron that is not attached to the nucleus of an atom, making it free to move around if there is external energy. (18) The Qi Devices™ produce a weak electrical charge that runs through the wires and Qi Solution™ inside of the Qi Device™. As a result, the Qi Solution™ is broken down and releases free electrons that create a defensive layer against EMFs.

Frequency

Frequency is the number of waves (such as a light or sound wave) that pass a certain point within a measurement of time. (19) Frequency is measured in hertz (Hz).

G

Gamma Rays

Gamma rays have the shortest wavelength, the most energy, and the highest frequency of all wavelengths on the EMF spectrum. On Earth, gamma rays are produced by a variety of things, including lighting and nuclear explosions. They are also produced in space by neutron stars, supernova explosions, and more. (20)

Gamma rays have a frequency range between 1020Hz and 1024Hz. (21) With wavelengths so small, gamma radiation is the more penetrative type of energy that we know of. It also falls into the ionizing range of EMF radiation, meaning that it can be more dangerous to humans; however, most people have such limited exposure to gamma rays that this type of radiation is not very concerning. In most cases, people are exposed to gamma rays via cancer treatment and medical scans. (22)

Gigahertz (GHz)

Gigahertz is a measurement of frequency. One gigahertz (GHz) is equal to 1 billion hertz. 5G technology uses millimeter waves, which is the part of the EMF spectrum that ranges from 30GHz to 300GHz. (23)

H

Hertz (Hz)

Hertz is a measurement of frequency representing the number of cycles per second. This unit of measurement is most often used in relation to electricity, light, radar, electromagnetic waves, and sound. (24)

I

Ionizing EMFs

Ionizing EMFs is a category of electromagnetic fields that has a high level of radiation and a greater potential for causing cellular damage. Ionizing EMFs fall in the mid- to high-frequency range of radiation and have shorter wavelengths than non-ionizing EMFs. Included in the ionizing EMF spectrum is ultraviolet light, X-rays, and gamma rays. (13)

M

Man-Made Radiation

Radiation that is produced by made-made sources. Some examples of man-made radiation sources include X-rays, televisions, gas and coal, smoke detectors, and some construction or building materials. (25)

Microwaves

Microwaves are a type of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength ranging from 1GHz to 30GHz. (16) These particular waves can be used for communication, radar, and cooking. (26)

Millimeter Waves

Millimeter waves are a form of high-frequency wavelengths with frequencies ranging between about 30GHz and 300GHz. (27) New 5G technology will operate partially through millimeter waves, which is a cause for concern for many people. Due to shorter wavelengths, many believe that millimeter waves are easier for the body to absorb and cause health issues; however, others believe that the use of millimeter waves will not pose a risk to tissue and overall health. (28)

Mitochondrial Function

The term used to describe the basic processes and functions of the mitochondria. In cells, the mitochondria generate the majority of ATP, which is used for energy. (29) Qi Devices™ use a proprietary solution to help depolarize EMF wavelengths. As a result, your body may experience an increase in ATP production, which also represents an increase in mitochondrial function

N

Natural Radiation

Radiation that is produced by natural sources. Some examples of natural radiation sources include materials found in the soil and rock (such as uranium and radium), the sun, and potassium-40. (30)

Non-Ionizing EMFs

This group of EMFs has a low level of radiation and is often seen as harmless to humans. Non-ionizing radiation includes low- to mid-frequency radiation. Many of us are exposed to more non-ionizing EMF devices than ionizing. Types of non-ionizing EMF radiation include extremely low frequency (ELF), radio frequency, visual light, and microwaves. These frequencies can come from both natural and man-made sources, including microwave ovens, computers, cellphones, Wi-Fi routers and networks, power lines, and Bluetooth® devices. (13)

O

Organic Acid Test

An organic acid test (OAT) is a urine test that can provide you with information about a variety of bodily systems. It is also a way that you can test whether your Qi Device™ is working. OATs show levels of the various byproducts of metabolism, providing information about how well the different body systems are working. (31) To test how well your Qi Device™ is working, visit your doctor and get an OAT prior to using your Qi Device™. Return for another OAT 30 days after you’ve started to use your Qi Device™ and compare the results. Your results should show an increase in ATP and mitochondrial function after using your Qi Device™.

Waveguard Technology is the only proven EMF-protection device available. It protects against 3G, 4G, 5G, Wi-Fi, cellphones, and EMFs emitted from other electronic devices. There are 12 studies that test and prove the effectiveness of Waveguard Technology. This technology uses the proprietary Qi Solution™ to create a protective area that depolarizes EMF radiation and reduces your overall exposure to EMFs. As a result, you can experience fewer or no symptoms of EMF hypersensitivity.

Wavelength

A wavelength is the distance between two points in the same phase of two consecutive waves. This measurement is often from crest to crest (the highest point of a wave) or trough to trough (the lowest point of a wave). Longer wavelengths have lower frequencies; shorter wavelengths have higher frequencies. (34)

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that computers and other devices use to communicate via a wireless signal. (35) Wi-Fi signals often require a router, which is a small device that allows you to connect to your Internet service provider’s network. It connects networks both locally and otherwise to provide an access point using radio waves in various frequencies. (36)
